Ashanti were around from 1983 to about 1990 and were originally a three piece R& B outfit, with Stevie Boyd on Guitar and Vocals, Davy Stewart on Bass Guitar and Vocals and Stevie Shanks on Drums, they gigged around the rock circuit until Davy moved on. Local singer Harv was drafted in along with the Count on Keyboards and Russ Nesbitt on Bass. They quickly started writing their own songs and built up a good local following. After Russ departed, Western Justice singer Glenn Kingsmore joined and the band continued to have good local success. Harv decdied to move to the south and Glenn and Stevie Boyd took over the singing. The style of the songs changed from the Bon Jovi AOR style to a more rocky Bryan Adams / U2 sort of feel. The band worked and gigged very hard (thanks to our crew - Keith Shanks, Willie Campbell and Ian Hanna) and wrote a huge amount of songs.

They were eventually signed for various recordings and released three singles which did well in the local and Irish charts. An album was recorded in 1989 and remains unreleased. Ashanti did really well and were very popular in Ireland but never quite got the break they deserved. They were once described as and remain "Irelands best kept secret". Check out some of the songs recorded by the band and see what you think? We liked 'em (but we were biased 'cause we wrote 'em!).
