A Celebration of the Music
and Magic of Queen

The Flash Harry Crew

A good gig for our crew is one where you don't notice them! To put on a show for you, they get to the gig hours before you or us, unload the gear, set it all up, and perform preliminary soundchecks. When you arrive at the gig and are having a drink in the bar, they're running around helping us with last minute adjustments and making sure that everything's in order. Whilst you're enjoying the show they're making us look and sound good for you, and then afterwards, whilst you've adjourned to the pub or are homeward bound, they're taking down the kit and loading the truck again. They arrive home hours after everyone else is tucked up in bed. And then, sometimes, they do it all again the following day, and maybe the day after that too. For the crew, THE SHOW MUST GO ON - no question, no compromise.

Dougie

Dougie

Dougie joined our ranks in 2008, having worked alongside Stevie Boyd in Doghouse (a Belfast-based Ska Band). Born in Aberdeen, he always wanted to be an electrician. He leaned to play the piano when he was 6 years old and has always loved all things music, in fact he's a Sweet officiando, and even sang in a band himself back in the day, at which time he was nicknamed "Shaggy" because of his long hair. He roadies and drives the truck for us, and also takes care of our audio mix. You'll generally see him standing at the back of the gig, iPad in hand, making adjustment to the levels to optimise our sound during the performance. A great family man, when he's not "flashing" he works in a music shop.

Favourite Queen song: I Want It All.

Cj

Cj

Cj has been handling our social media presence and website since 2010. However, sometimes you'll see her as part of the stage crew, as she is certificated to work at indoor and outdoor live events. She takes care of some of the admin, dealing with questions, queries and enquiries, and she also assists various promoters and venues with information, PR material and promotion support. She has built up an enormous database of archived material dating right back to when the Band started up. A solicitor, and software accounts manager in her previous life, she now works from home.

Favourite Queen song: Don't Stop Me Now.

Spike

Spike

On a page about the Crew, we couldn't not mention Spike! Long-time friend of Stevie Shanks, Spike joined the Flash Harry ranks in 1997 to give a hand with equipment etc. He quickly took on a Stage Manager and Chief Roadie role, and developed a penache at producing spectacular lighting shows to make us look good, even though he refused to use state of the art equipment, preferring Big Bertha, an old, cumbersome and temperamental lighting desk bought on Ebay! Once purchased, Bertha needed to be transported from England to Northern Ireland, and Cj was tasked with manhandling her from A to B. Spike and Bertha didn't always see eye to eye, but we reckon that as as she was an English sound desk, she probably had trouble with Spike's accent! Along with his role in the Band, Spike juggled long and unforgiving working hours in the public sector industry. Now with several Grandchildren to keep him busy, Spike took well earned retirement in 2018. We will always remember his commitment and loyalty, and what a valued member of the Flash Harry team he was.
